What is Spinal Decompression?
Spinal decompression is the gold standard for conservative disc treatment. When a spinal disc is herniated, bulging, or compressed, it can pinch the spinal cord or the spinal nerves, causing you pain. The goal of Spinal Decompression is to apply a distraction force to the targeted compressed, bulging, or herniated spinal disc(s). The treatment program is 20-24 visits, and is combined with rehab.
What does Spinal Decompression treat?
- Herniated discs
- Bulging discs
- Facet Joint syndrome
- Spinal Stenosis
- Pinched nerves (Numbness, tingling, pain) in the arms or legs
Conditions that Spinal Decompression does not treat:
- Spinal Tumors
- Vertebral Fractures
- Spinal Fusion with hardware
*Pregnant women are also not candidates for spinal decompression therapy.
Can I avoid surgery?
Many times patients who undergo Spinal Decompression treatment can avoid surgery and completely reverse the condition altogether. This depends on how severe your condition is, and how devoted you are to your treatment.
How long does the treatment take?
Each decompression session lasts 20 minutes, and at the beginning may not last that long. After your spinal decompression and rehab, total time in the office is approximately 40 minutes. Each treatment protocol at this office is for 20-24 treatments, and treatment is recommended at 3-5 times per week, depending on the severity of your condition. =
Can I quit treatment when the pain goes away?
You can quit care at any time, but do run the risk of your disc not healing properly. This can lead to your pain coming back soon after you quit. Typically, your pain will start to decrease relatively quickly, but if the underlying problem is not fixed, you will most likely be back in our office very quickly.
Is Spinal Decompression covered by my insurance?
Most major Insurance companies do not cover Spinal Decompression Treatment. The rehab that is done along with decompression is usually covered, depending on your insurance. Spinalworks Dallas has many affordable payments plans available so anyone can afford treatment.
Surgery should always be the last option! While there is a time and a place for surgery, we believe in taking a more natural and holistic approach. Many of our patients have avoided surgery altogether and are very relieved that they didn't just go through surgery right away.
