Trigger Point Injections in upper Dallas
Trigger point pain
Trigger points are small “knots” or areas of spasm located within a muscle. They produce pain locally and in a referred pattern and often accompany chronic musculoskeletal disorders. Trigger points may be tender when touched or cause limited range of motion in the effected area. Trigger points may even cause “referred pain” – pain that is felt in a distant location when they trigger point is touched. The pain from these points may come and go spontaneously, or linger hours, days, even months.
Cause of trigger point pain
Trigger points can have a multitude of causes which may be accidents, misuse, overuse, misalignment, disc problems or other spinal injuries. The resulting inflammation, coupled with emotional stressors may cause muscle cells to contract and constrict blood supply. When this occurs, the cells do not have enough energy to stop contracting and prolonged spasm and trigger points ensue.
Trigger Point Injections for pain relief
Over 25 million Americans take pain medication every day. Many of these people take the medication for chronic pain and would like to avoid the possible long-term side effects of these pills. Trigger point injection therapy at our Dallas medical facility provides a natural alternative to trigger point and myofascial pain.
Trigger point therapy works by loosening trigger point knots, allowing improved blood flow to the spasmodic areas. During the procedure, a very thin, acupuncture sized needle is injected into the muscle belly quickly (which is rarely even felt) which causes a fast twitch of the muscle with a very diluted lidocaine solution. The lidocaine helps to numb the area and the fast twitch releases the lactic acid which is built up inside the trigger point thus relaxing the muscle.
The treatment at Spinalworks Medical Group is simple, minimally invasive and quick. Improvement is usually noted after each session.
